Canada 2022:

May 11 to May 19 (Home to Ottawa, ON)

Off on the second (and largest) leg of the cross Canada journey. Home to Ottawa with stops in Regina, SK., Kenora, ON., Kapuskasing, ON., and finally Ottawa, ON.

Day 17 - May 11, 2022

Well, we are off again, on our way to Newfoundland. The first day was a long day across the prairie to Regina. It started off with a beautiful sunrise as we left the resort. As usual I head off onto back roads so an 8 hour drive turns into 11. Not too many shots today, just a couple of some Pronghorn Antelope, the road ahead and those prairie skies! Bud E. was quiet on the drive did enjoy the view.

Day 18 - May 12, 2022

Another long day of driving, from Regina to Kenora, ON. There is lots of water in the rivers (OK overflowing the banks of the rivers) in Manitoba. We got off the Trans Canada for a brief lunch and nap break and got a couple shots of a row of old poser poles. Also a quick stop at the "Centre of Canada" (the east/west centre), the Manitoba/Ontario border. Lastly, a shot of Bud E. enjoying the view from the balcony of our motel in Kenora.

Day 19 - May 13, 2022

After 2 long days on the road, today was spent touring around Kenora. Very pretty little place. We drove all over town, stopped downtown and generally took it pretty easy. We even went for a little hike around Tunnel Island.

Day 20 - May 14, 2022

Maybe I am just getting old, but these days of driving all day are not getting easier! Anyway, the short road from Kenora to Thunder Bay was iffy due to water over the road so I took the south route through Fort Frances. First an ealy stop at the appropriately named "Rushing River". Next a pair of nesting Trumpeter Swans, some water over the road I chose and then some very pretty lake/sky/reflection shots.

Day 21 - May 15, 2022

Another long day from Thunder bay to Kapuskasing. The weather was great and the wind was low so I stopped at one of the many lakes and got a good sequence of a Common Merganser taking off. Highway 11 is busy with big trucks outnumbering passenger vehicles by about 3 or 4 to 1.

Next a couple waterfalls, and Bud E. enjoying some chocolate pudding beside another lake. Driving through Northern Ontario trees, rocks, lakes and rivers and stuff.

Next I saw a pair of Sandhill Cranes and finally a few shots around Kapuskasing.

Day 22 - May 16, 2022

Today was the journey from Kapuskasing to North Bay but I decided to take a little detour through Sudbury so Bud E. could see the Big Nickel. An extra hour but that's how we roll. Just a couple shots along the way. We are staying right on Lake Nipissing so a couple shots from the hotel dock.

Day 23 - May 17, 2022

A shorter drive today from North bay to Ottawa. It was a day of rain, sometimes heavy so no pictures except for a quick stop at Callander, ON. It stopped once we got to Ottawa.

We are staying right downtown so we went for a walk and got a couple shots of some wildlife, and several of some of the government buildings, the War Memorial, and general Ottawa shots. Of course the Parliament Buildings are being renovated so the shots are spoiled by fences and cranes. However, Bud E. managed to do some cameo appearances and then trust a bear to want to play in the flowers!

Day 24 - May 18, 2022

This is what happens when I walk instead of drive. Too many photos. The weather was terrific and I spent all day walking around downtown Ottawa (quite beautiful by the way). Some wonderful architecture, loads of history and something i never imagined i would do. I had been out walking for a couple hours and came across a lot of people lining the streets. I asked what was happening and it turns out Prince Charles and Camilla were visiting. While I am not a royal watcher and Charlie is likely my least favourite, I had to get some shots. Luckily I was in a good location. Anyway, if you are interested, plan to spend a little time. 66 photos here.

Day 25 - May 19, 2022

It was a cool, rainy day today so I went to the Canadian Museum of History. A very large, very well done place. Museums are not really my thing but I was impressed. Here are some shots from inside the museum. No room here for explanations.
