Road Trip – 2018/2019:

Dec. 29 to Jan. 4 (Weston, FL)

Weston, FL is just west of Ft. Lauderdale and north west of Miami. This is our last week before our Caribbean cruise. A trip to Miami and Miami Beach, New Years, a day trip through the Everglades to Naples Florida, and a two day excursion to Key West make up this week. Weather was outstanding (30 degrees every day with just a few clouds here and there) and all in all, a great week.

Day 61 - Dec. 29, 2018

A quick trip today from Kissimmee (just south of Orlando) to Weston (just west of Ft. Lauderdale). So, just a few pics of some of the miles of citrus orchards, one of some sugar cane and then a few around our new home for the week.

Day 62 - Dec. 30, 2018

Off to Miami and Miami Beach. Miami is beautiful. It is nowhere near as big as LA but the traffic downtown and Miami Beach rivals LA and that is hard to do. However we survived.

First a Double Decker bus tour, then lunch on Ocean Dr. and a walk on the beach. That was the busiest beach we have ever seen. By far! The California beaches are not even close.

Then a night cruise around Biscayne Bay past some of the hundreds of mansions on Millionaires Row. Many of these homes are in the 50 million dollar plus range. A few decent shots of the Miami skyline from the water at night too.

Day 63 - Dec. 31, 2018

New Years Eve. They were setting up for big bash at Miami Beach yesterday when we were there. We had no interest in getting into that mass of traffic and humanity so it was a quiet night at the resort.

They sell fireworks everywhere here and they started early (around 8:00 pm) and went steady until about 2:00 in the morning. The weird part? We couldn't see any of them. They were close, loud and we got the smoke but nothing visible.

Anyway, Happy New Year everyone!

Day 64 - Jan. 1, 2019

Quite the day. We drove through the Everglades from Weston to Naples. Staying off the interstate (as per usual) we drove the old highway and for about 60 miles you are surrounded by the Everglades and water. We pulled over and saw alligators and birds. So we stopped again. And again. And everywhere there were alligators, birds and fish. If I had to guess I'll bet there was at least on alligator every 50 feet for 60 miles. Unbelievable!

We got shots of lots of alligators, but also plenty of birds, including some rare Roseate Spoonbills, Green Herons, Little Blue Herons and others. So, if you are tired of wildlife shots, simply skip to the end where we get a few sunset shots from the Beach in Naples, looking west over the Gulf of Mexico.

Day 65 - Jan. 2, 2019

Shopping. Not my favourite thing. What is it about mall entrance doors that remove the brains of most of those who pass through them? People who normally walk at a normal speed seem to forget how. And they really love to stop in the middle of narrow aisles to completely block them off. Weird.

Day 66 - Jan. 3 2019

One of the planned highlights of the trip is or day trip to Key West. First the drive over the Overseas Highway. It is a road that consists of island, bridge, island, bridge for over 120 miles. Quite the interesting drive.

Then we spent the day in Key West. Lunch, walk around, lovely old homes, interesting people and culture. Then one of the most gorgeous sunsets you can imagine.
