Day trip to Ram Falls

Today we decided to take a road trip out to Ram Falls and maybe see some wild horses along the way. We were about a half hour from Ram Falls when I commented that we hadn’t seen anything other than the beautiful scenery. Then we came around a corner and there they were. More wild horses than I have ever seen in one place. I tried counting and stopped at 40. Then another group came out of the bush, then another and another. We just parked along the road and sat for a half hour watching. Foals, moms the big males sparring with other males and herding their family to another location. They crossed the road in front of us and behind. They ran and played. A memory to last a lifetime.

Then off to Elk Creek Fish Pond and Peppers Lake and finally the falls. For those that have never been there, there is a viewing platform, but you need to go down about a hundred stairs to get to it and a good view of the falls. Unfortunately, that is closed. So, I decided to walk the trail along the ridge to try to get a better view. I was about 300 yards from the platform, came around a corner and was 15 or 20 feet from a momma Bighorn Sheep with twins. She didn’t seem to mind me so I spent a couple minutes getting some shots of her and the family, and the falls. I then went back to the platform to get Verna and bring her back. We didn’t get there as the male had showed up and he decided to let us know we weren’t welcome and started to come toward us. We wisely took his invitation to leave.

Then up to Hummingbird Falls and a couple more shots on the drive home. A great day!
